Responsible Gambling
The protections every British player has access to, the warning signs to be honest about, and the help that is available — free and confidential — when needed.
If you need help today
If gambling has stopped being entertainment and started causing harm, the help available to you in the United Kingdom is free, confidential, and accessible immediately. You do not need to wait for the situation to deteriorate further.
- GamCare — 24/7 confidential helpline: 0808 8020 133. Live chat at gamcare.org.uk. Trained advisors. Free.
- BeGambleAware — information, advice and treatment referral: begambleaware.org
- NHS National Gambling Service — clinical treatment for gambling addiction available free on the NHS via nhs.uk
- Samaritans — if you are in crisis: 116 123, free, 24/7
Operator-level tools at Kwiff
Every UKGC-licensed operator, Kwiff included, is required to provide a set of player-protection tools. At Kwiff these are accessed via Account → Responsible Gambling:
- Deposit limits — daily, weekly or monthly caps. Decreases apply immediately; increases require a 24-hour cooling-off period.
- Loss limits — caps on net loss over the chosen period.
- Session reminders — periodic pop-ups stating elapsed playing time and net position.
- Time-out — a temporary account suspension from 24 hours to 6 weeks.
- Self-exclusion — a longer suspension from 6 months to 5 years. The suspension cannot be reversed before it expires.
We strongly recommend setting a deposit limit at registration. The decision is materially easier to make calmly than it is in the middle of a losing session.
GAMSTOP — the national self-exclusion scheme
GAMSTOP is the United Kingdom's centralised self-exclusion scheme. Registering with GAMSTOP excludes the registered customer from every UKGC-licensed gambling site — every casino, every sportsbook, every bingo operator — for the chosen period (6 months, 1 year, or 5 years).
Registration is free and immediate at gamstop.co.uk. The exclusion cannot be reversed before the chosen period expires. Operators that fail to honour GAMSTOP exclusion are subject to severe regulatory penalty; the enforcement record is robust.
Honest warning signs
Take an honest look at the following statements. If any feels familiar, the help above is the next step:
- I have spent more on gambling this month than I budgeted for.
- I have lied to someone close to me about how much I have spent or lost.
- I have placed bets to "win back" money I have lost.
- I have used credit, an overdraft, or a loan to fund gambling.
- I have skipped work, family or social commitments to gamble.
- I have felt anxiety, guilt, or depression in relation to my gambling.
None of these alone is a diagnosis. Several of them together is a clear signal that the conversation with GamCare is overdue.
